Lessons in Prayer – Luke 11:1-13

Jesus modeled a life of prayer – Luke 11:1, Mark 1:35, Luke 6:12

I. Prayer Starts with God - Luke 11:2
    *  “In prayer, real prayer, we begin to think God’s thoughts after him:
        to desire the things he desires, to love the things he loves, to will the
        things he wills” – Richard Foster
    * Prayer is not a means to the end of getting what you want.

II. Prayer Empowers Moral Living - Luke 11:3,4
    * Daily bread, forgiveness & temptation
    * Praying that we will change, not that our circumstances become what
        we want.
    * “Prayer will make a man cease from sin, or sin will entice a man to
        cease from prayer.”     John Bunyon

III. Prayer Invites Persistence - Luke 11:5-8
    * Persistence and boldness make prayer effective.
    * Persistence pays off in sports and business.
    * Desperate prayers are most effective.

IV. Prayer Trusts God’s Character - Luke 11:9-13
    * God loves us more than we can imagine.
    * Example of a parent.
    * “Pray as if everything depends on God, then work as if everything
        depends on you.” Martin Luther

        * 日用的飲食, 饒恕, 和試探
        * 為我們能被改變禱告, 不是要環境如意
        * “禱告使我們停止犯罪, 罪引誘我們停止禱告” John Bunyon
    III. 禱告持續性 - 路 11:5-8
        * 持續性和勇氣使禱告有果效
        * 持續性使運動和事業有成果
        * 情詞迫切的禱告最有果效
    IV. 禱告信靠神的屬性 - 路 11:9-13
        * 神愛我們過於我們能想像的
        * 父母的例子
